Secured Credit Cards Can Establish Better Credit
Secured credit cards are designed to assist people who have never had credit or those who have bad credit, in order to enable them to establish a good credit rating.

Typically, secured credit cards are issued when the holder is able to offer a type of "security" deposit to the lender by depositing a pre-arranged amount of money into a savings account, money market or certificate of depo... Read credit cards article

Lower Your Credit Card Interest Rates
When planning to eliminate your credit card debt, you need to find the lowest possible interest rate. Whether you have your current rates lowered or you transfer your balances to a different credit card, you will save money.

When you pay a lower interest rate more of your monthly payment goes towards the principal balance. This is because your finance charges are lower on your account. ... Read credit cards article

Credit Cards - Secrets Revealed
Most people today have at least one credit card, but many don't fully understand how their card company works. To know this, you need to look into your agreement with your credit card issuer. You know -- the fine print below the interest rate that you never read.

The average consumer has no idea that if you make your credit card payments on time, your rate could still increase. All you have to do is make a late payment anywhere. The Universal Default Clause says that you must be in good standing with all your credit accounts. Your credit card companies are checking your credit report every month to see if you have missed any payments. They can also increase your rate if it looks like your debt-to-income ratio is getting too high. Your charging to your credit cards can actually result in a higher interest rate. This is generally seen in every credit card agreement today.

You can be charged any amount for late payment fees and penalties. There is no limit. There used to be, but a 1996 Supreme Court ruling wiped these limits out. Many credit card users will see late fees of up to $40. The credit card companies generate a lot of income from these fees and penalties.

There is also no federal limit on the amount of interest you can be charged on your credit card accounts. Have you ever noticed that all of your credit cards come from the states of Utah, South Dakota or Delaware? That is because the usury laws are nonexistent in these states. There is no national usury law that will protect you from high interest rates. Get into debt, and you face the chance you will pay unreasonably high rates. Many accounts in default see interest rates of over 30%.

There are a lot of people out there that simply assume that they are doing well by paying the monthly minimum. You are, but you aren't doing great. Approximately 35 million consumers only pay the minimum monthly payments on their credit cards each month. This means that they will pay for years and pay more than the cost of the original item they purchased. Learn to speed up this processes through creating a debt elimination plan.

It is vital that you read your entire credit card agreement. I know people who were shocked that it had to do with their account. They simply thought it was legal talk. Well it is -- legal talk that affects your credit card account. There are clauses in there that will allow your interest rate to be changed without any reason. How much in interest you pay will depend on the stated grace period. There are many important terms in the fine print that should not be overlooked.

A credit card is just like any other loan you take out. You must know the terms. You wouldn't, hopefully, take out a mortgage and never read a paper or ask about the interest rate and terms. So why would you treat a credit card account in this manner. You may say that there is a difference in the money amounts you are borrowing. However, by paying only your minimum payments each month, you can easily exceed your total mortgage payment over the years.

How to Avoid Gift Card Scams

Gift cards are a popular holiday gift, but be careful. Gift card scams are the new fad out there in the world of financial frauds.

The National Retail Federation says that gift card sales increase in the billions each year. Most people spend $30 or more on gift cards that they give as holiday presents. Many people don't realize that the gift they are giving might be part of a scam.

One very popular scam involves people copying the gift card numbers that are hanging on the store racks. They then call the retailer's 800 number to check on the balances for the card numbers they have copied. When the cards are purchased and activated, the thief uses the card number to buy items online.

There are also many fake gift cards floating around out there. These have been stolen. You buy them online and give them as a gift only to find that they had never been activated.

When considering gift cards as a holiday gift, keep these tips in mind:

Buy gift cards from the store or retailer's secure website. Do not buy gift cards from a third party or an auction site. When you purchase a gift card from a physical store, make sure that you carefully examine both sides of the card. Make sure that it hasn't been tampered with. The PIN number should not be exposed. If you are unsure, do not purchase the gift card. Make sure that you hold onto your receipt. This is your proof of purchase. If the card was compromised and was unable to be used, many retailers will replace the card for you. Once you have bought a gift card in the store, ask the cashier to scan the card to ensure that it is valid and reflects the balance you just added to the card. This ensures that you are giving exactly what you paid for. Gift cards are an excellent gift option for the holidays and other events. It is easy to stay within your budget when you simply purchase gift cards for everyone. And they do show thought if you choose retailers that are of specific interest for the intended recipient. For example, a hunting and fishing store for dad, a quilt shop for mom and a toy store for junior. It saves you money, time and being jostled around by other holiday shoppers.

All you have to do is determine how much you want to spend towards each person on your list. This is easy. Make a list of everyone that you want to puchase items for. Then look to your budget for how much you are able to spend on holiday shopping. Then simply divide the number of people into the total you want to spend. This gives you the amount you can spend on each person's gift card. It couldn't be any more simple.
