Prevent Credit Card Abuse
The season has officially begun. This is the time of year Americans flock to the mall in droves to catch all the bargains that retailers have to offer. The reason of course is to find those perfect gifts, along with the satisfaction of finding a great deal. Yet when the credit card statements arrive over the next few months, many consumers will find that they once again over extended their budgets. Many still have not fully paid off their debts from last year.
It is too easy to do. Credit is easy to obtain, and we are constantly bombarded with incentives to use our credit cards instead of cash. Incentives range from airline miles, to free gasoline, to cash back rewards. Credit card commercials are designed to give us the mindset that we can live like royalty, if we just use our credit cards. They are very successful at this. When using plastic, we don't feel as if we are actually spending money.
Credit card use can quickly turn into credit card abuse. This is especially true during the holiday shopping season. Reality quickly sets in when the statements arrive in December and January. When the credit card balances become out of control, the consumer begins to search for their best debt relief. Instead of a consolidation program or refinancing their house (again), consumers are now turning to debt elimination. A true elimination program will allow people to legally walk away from 100% of that debt, without bankruptcy, consolidation, or refinancing.
Given the fact that bankruptcy may no longer be an option, consumers and small business owners are now finding this type of debt relief more suitable to their needs. They are also finding their credit scores are higher after completing this process.
The process that is used to discharge debt is based off of U.S. Supreme Courts decisions, Title 15 United State Code (USC), the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act, the Fair Credit Billing Act, the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), and numerous Banking and Lending laws.
Almost everyone has had the experience of being given a leaflet from a credit card agent. This can be while walking back to the office after lunch or while shopping at the mall. While surfing through the web, some pop up ads also appears on screen offering instant approval and low interest rates.
These examples are just one of many credit card companies use to get more clients and thus get more revenue.
But the question remains, is it possible to get the best credit card in the market? First, of all, there is no such thing as the best credit card. This is because almost all the companies offer the same thing and the only difference is probably some amenities and the corresponding interest rate.
The best thing anyone can do is to find the right card that suits the individual's budget. Here are some things that people should know and use as a guide when deciding to apply for one.
1. Credit card companies just like banks will base the limit of the purchases on the credit score of the customer. The person can get this by using one of many websites for free and plugging in some vital information.
Some people may probably have two credit cards already and are thinking of getting another one. Should this be the case, it is best to evaluate how much the client is already spending each month to see if this is still possible.
2. People have different reasons of getting a credit card. Those who have bad credit need something small to build up the credit rating again. First timers need the same to get an approval on a loan. Those who have a two probably want another one because dissatisfaction with the current cards.
3. Those who are dissatisfied can probably talk to the agent about negotiating a better rate. If this does not work, then it is time to find another card company that is offering a better rate.
But wait, what about the current one? This can be canceled after getting a balance with the new card and then transferring the existing balance. There is usually a fee for this arrangement that can be as high as 4% of the amount the customer owes.
This should also be put into consideration when opening a new card and closing the old one.
4. Instead of getting fliers or calling up card companies to get the rate, the individual can get this information from the Internet. There is usually an official website for each of these firms and getting the data then comparing it using a worksheet will provide a clearer picture which one is worth getting.
5. The last thing to do if the person is still not sure is to ask a bank rate financial expert. These professionals monitor the rates given by banks and other card companies so the best credit with the interests of the client in mind can be recommended.
Applying for a new credit card can be done in a few seconds. The approval and the delivery will usually take a few days. Once it has been activated, the customer can now use this for shopping or eating out in a restaurant.
It is still best to monitor the expenses and pay on time to avoid the hassle of paying any penalties.
